Zo ook een verhaal over oud-NHL-speler Ray Ferraro, die werd gevraagd te spreken bij een jeugdclub waar de verwachtingen van ouders behoorlijk hoog waren opgelopen. Zijn boodschap is er een die elke ouder eens mag lezen.<\/p>\n<p>De kern: de kans dat een kind profijshockeyer wordt is minuscuul, de kans dat het een leven lang plezier aan de sport beleeft is heel groot. Laat het dus vooral het plezier van het kind zijn, niet de droom van de ouder.<\/p>\n<h2>Wat Ferraro de ouders meegaf<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Geniet van de rit. De jeugdjaren van je kind zijn zo voorbij, en veel ouders kijken er later met spijt op terug omdat ze met alles bezig waren behalve met de vraag of hun kind het leuk had.<\/li>\n<li>Je investeert tijd en geld, en het enige dat je daarvoor mag vragen is dat je kind zijn best doet. Niet hoeveel ijstijd hij krijgt, niet of hij in het powerplay staat, en niet met wie hij in een lijn speelt.<\/li>\n<li>Betaal je extra trainingen? Doe dat omdat je kind er zelf om vroeg en er met een glimlach naartoe gaat, niet omdat jij vijftig goals verwacht.<\/li>\n<li>Twaalf maanden per jaar ijshockey is te veel. Kinderen kunnen ook gewoon zelf pucks schieten en spelen zonder dat het georganiseerd is.<\/li>\n<li>We vertellen de leraar van onze kinderen niet hoe hij wiskunde moet uitleggen. Waarom denken we dan wel dat we de coach kunnen vertellen wie wanneer moet spelen?<\/li>\n<li>Beoordeel het seizoen niet op bekers en toernooien, maar op wat er tussen september en april is verbeterd &ndash; ook buiten het ijs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Zoals Ferraro het samenvat: &ldquo;Just let them play, learn and develop.&rdquo; De druk is al hoog genoeg.<\/p>\n<p>Dat sluit aan bij waar wij als club voor staan: plezier in ijshockey, voor jong en oud.
